The display used for the system is a Seiko 40*2 LCD Text display. It uses the very common Hitachi HD44780 interface controller, which works nicely wired up to the computers parallel port. It has a built in yellow/green LED backlight which is essential for night driving. As the pictures show the display has been mounted just front of the gearshift in a recess built into the Suzuki dash, made from 3MM MDF board covered in thin black carpet. It seems to match the car interior rather well.

The LCD was wired to the pc through 12 core computer cable and attached to the LCD using a IDC style connector from an old IDE cable. Works much nicer than trying to solder wires directly to the LCD circuit board, since you find that after a while the wires start to break off to cause some headaches. The cable is about 4 metres to the back of the car but the LCD still works great over this long distance. I think using shielded cable plays a big role in this.
